a new table

Last week the father of the children fell through the table, without even one small scratch. (I would have broken both legs…) See here.
I loved that table. It was round, with a firm middle piece, extra made for me. There were 5 tables of the same design in the country. They were made for large families, with a 10 cm thick wooden face, so when the children would have grown up, the top could be removed and it still would be a nice table.
He just ruined it.
Ofcourse we weren’t able to find another one.
The round tables we saw were too small, and had no extra middle piece.
In fact we found only one table with an extra middle piece and it was far too expensive.
I was ready to leave the open space just as it is now, as a protest against his lack of care for the consequences of his actions, but the kids need a table.
Yesterday, after visiting the psych of one of the boys, we had a quick walk through the furniture shops nearby.
Nothing. Just wooden rectangular tables with nothing special. A kind of elephants, which would make our house look even smaller.
This afternoon I found a table on internet, at one of the shops that deliver here too.
The wood is different from what we had.
It’s rectangular without an extra middle piece.
In fact it’s as long as the other, but we said we wanted a shorter table.
And it’s not as wide as the former one. Which is a plus, because there will be more space around it.
And it’s within the limits of the budget.
One way or another I though it would be a good table for us.
It’ll be delivered next monday.
I’ve never ever bought such a thing at internet. Maybe it’s a stupid decision.
But we need a table and this one is different from the chunky modern things and the refined elegant, somewhat old fashioned, far too expensive furniture.
I hope it’s the perfect table for us.
